Ways to Save Money at Home
Cutting back on household expenses is one of the best ways to alleviate a budget problem or find some extra money to put toward something you are saving up for, like a vacation or a new car. Making some small changes can save most households at least $100 per month, if not more, which really adds up in the long run. If you are home for most of the day, use these tips to help save some money at home.
One of the biggest ways to cut costs is with your heating and cooling bills. When you are in your home and spend most of the day miserable, shivering, and probably bundled up in about eight layers of clothes if you’ve turned down the heat, try a compromise approach. Turn down the heat, but position one or two space heaters in the room where you will be spending your time. Turn up the house heat again when everybody else is about to get home and use the main living areas. Even though the heat stays on for a while to get the house up to temperature, the hours when you use space heaters instead save you lots of money.
At night, you can take a similar approach with turning down the heat. Wear cozy pajamas, add an extra blanket or two to each bed, and set the heat at least five degrees lower than you would have it during the day. If you have infants who can't use blankets yet, put a space heater in that room to keep it cozy.
In addition to the heating and cooling, pay attention to other parts of the energy bill. Everybody knows to turn off lights when you aren't using them, but there are other strategies that aren't nearly as obvious. Many electronics draw power even when they are turned off, so unplug them from the wall when they aren't in use. Alternately, plug several items that you use together, like your television setup, into a power strip with a switch you can turn off when you aren't using it.
Another way to cut back at home is to buy in bulk as much as possible. Stores always list the price per unit on the shelves, and the bigger packages have a larger price tag overall but a much smaller price per unit. If it's something you know you will use, like toilet paper, paper towels, diapers, shampoo, peanut butter, or ketchup, buying the bigger package will save you money. Another strategy is to buy these items on sale and use coupons to get them at an even lower price. In addition, consider switching to store brands, which are often comparable to name brand products.
When you clean your home, rather than spending lots of money on natural cleaning products, make your own. White vinegar has many antibacterial properties and works great for cleaning surfaces. When you need an abrasive cleaner, add some baking soda, which helps you scrub off stains and absorbs odors. If you like scented cleaning products, just add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to make your home smell good.
Adding these money-saving strategies to your usual routine takes some effort as first, but after making the switch, you will soon find they come naturally. Now all you have to do is figure out how you want to use all of the money you will be saving from these techniques!

Getting Photos For Your Blog
Blogs are meant to be informative but they should also be fun and colorful. Photography is the key to adding flavor and life to the text in your blog. However, just because you are a good writer, doesn't make you an expert photographer or artist. Even if you are a good photographer, you may not be able to get a picture of certain things you write about easily or affordably. How can you get free photography for your blogs?
Websites That Offer Free Photography
Stock photos have been around for years. You see them in advertisements, newspapers and websites. A lot of websites charge for a subscription fee or a flat rate per photo. You might even recognize stock photo models or scenery from time to time. Paid sites like shutterstock.com and istockphoto.com can get you photos at an affordable rate. However, you can get almost anything you need from free sites like everystockphoto.com, wylio.com and dreamstime.com. Some of these sites have over 13 million images available!
Making Your Own Photos
You don't need to be an expert photographer anymore to generate decent quality photos to use on your blogs. A midrange digital camera will do the trick for taking pictures of scenery, projects, animals, people and food. Taking your own photos also adds personal flavor to your blog.
You can easily find deals on cameras on major electronic retailer's websites. Camera quality is measured by megapixels. Most experts agree 4 megapixels is the minimum resolution to generate a decent photo. You'll probably find good deals on even higher resolution cameras. Using them is easier than ever.
Once you have your photos, getting them into your computer is easy with most modern cameras. You'll also probably need some software to resize and edit pictures. Many cameras come with a simple program to help you make these sort of adjustments. If you really want to get into professional photography and editing, you can get programs like Photoshop or other similar programs that help you modify your pictures. Usually you'll just need to copy the photos to your computer and then upload them through your blog's interface.
Displaying Your Photos
Most blogging website platforms provide lots of ways to display your photography content. You can include them easily in articles or sidebars with platforms like WordPress. Many of these systems also let you add galleries and slideshow views of your photos. You can also create thumbnail graphics that act as a "preview" picture for a blog post on the front page of your site.
Don't underestimate the value of photos on your blog. Pictures matter. They can attract visitors more than words. Give your users visuals to go with your words, and you may find the number of followers increases overnight.

Family Friendly Cars For Moms
Whether you are a working mom, soccer mom or stay at home mom, you need a safe, reliable way to get your family from school to the dentist, to the game, to the party and back home. Some days you need a vehicle that can haul your kids, their friends, backpacks and bicycles while offering fuel efficiency and easy parking. Other days, you want to look sleek pulling up to a meeting. In any case, the days of the stereotype minivan mom are gone. Families can choose from station wagons, SUVs, crossover vehicles and even spacious 4-doors hatchbacks as options to keep the clan on the move. Here are some family-friendly options for busy, driving moms:
The Dodge Durango Citadel is a sturdy but stylish sports utility vehicle that offers practical amenities while providing a luxury feel. The SUV is moderately priced, an attractive attribute for every family. The Durango seats seven, gets 16 miles per gallon in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Families with teens may particularly enjoy experimenting with features such as the electronic information center, Sirius Satellite Radio and Bluetooth capability. A rear back up camera and parking assistance system comes in handy when the car is packed to the gills with kids and cargo.
Don’t rule out smaller models for family transportation. The Toyota Prius may seem an unlikely choice for a family car but the hybrid is easy to park, easy to handle and good mileage makes it easy on the wallet. Toyota boasts the car gets up to 51 mpg in the city, making errands, appointments and carpools a little less painful. The car seats five and has a surprisingly deep storage space in back.
Prius now offers even better mileage and fuel economy with the new Plug-in Hybrid available starting at $32,000. Families can receive a $2,500 federal tax credit for purchasing this model. The Plug-ins can be charged in just three hours using a standard outlet, offering up to 15 miles of pure electric driving.
If you like the tried and true mini-van design, the Chrysler Town and Country Limited is a reliable classic. This mini-van features seating for seven and the second and third rows fold-down to transform the already spacious interior into a flat space that could host a real tailgate party. A built-in DVD system will distract young ones on cross-country trips and side curtain airbags provide additional safety for everyone.

Getting into eco-gaming with The Co-operative
An eco-revolution is here! And by all accounts it’s being led by none other than Generation Y – the kids of today.
Many kids are thinking green, even more so than their Mums and Dads and this is not something that has gone unnoticed – even big brands are now nurturing this phenomenon in the hope that kids educate their parents first, and their own kids in the future.
To quote an amazing statistic from a recent study by The Co-operative - more than 90% of young people are interested in green issues and helping the environment. And this was not just a study for study’s sake, this was to support the view that kids can really influence how we treat the environment – starting at home.
With this in mind, there are loads of things families can do together that are easy, eco-friendly and that raise awareness of the green issues our planet is facing. Homeowners should start with proper insulation and double glazing, and ensuring they’re with the greenest energy company. As a family, why not walk or cycle together – even if it’s just to school or a change from sitting in and watching a movie.
The green buck doesn’t have to stop at home though – check out The Co-operative’s Green Schools Revolution if you haven’t already. It’s a free programme designed to be used in primary and secondary schools all over the UK, to help teach school kids about different environmental issues and let them know how they can help with climate change. Parents and children can ask the head teacher about it and get the school to sign up to the programme for free. Teachers will get access to all kinds of learning resources and the kids will even get the chance to go on some excellent, free eco field trips to amazing locations.
If you have an iPhone or iPod download The Green School Revolution’s new app – it’s free! It’s a fun game that involves players going against the clock to harvest vegetable crops, turn taps off to save water and flick light switches off to save energy. Apart from helping you to learn more about environmental issues, it’s also really entertaining and if you manage to complete all of the levels you can unlock the secret bonus level. The makers of this app know that young people are the green pioneers of the future, which is why they have created it specifically to be fun for young people, but also something that can be enjoyed as a family.
The app is available to download for free from the App Store now! And you can use it on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. The game isn't limited to kids and teenagers though – it’s designed to be fun for all the family – brush up on your eco knowledge today!
Dani Butlerson writes on behalf of the Co-operative group who released recently their Green Schools app as part of the Green Schools Revolution.

3 Easy Ways to Boost Blog Comments
Imagine this scenario: You constantly post fresh content, but for some weird reason your readers refuse to leave comments. You keep track of your Web traffic too—you do in fact have a good amount of visitors and loyal readers. So you're left thinking, "well then what's the problem?" If this scene hits a little too close to home you may need to re-evaluate the way you go about blogging to encourage more comments—and comments are in fact important. They give you some insight to what you're doing right/wrong and can even spark inspiration for another spin-off post. That said, to learn some simple tips to get your readers more involved and to post a comment or two, continue reading below.
Ask a Question. You may have a tendency to tie up loose ends by writing a closing statement designed to evoke deep thoughts for your readers, but if you really want to get feedback from your readers skip all the rhetorical stuff and ask a real question. Proposing a question is a direct invite for your readers to say something. So, whenever it seems appropriate, try to ask one final question at the end of the closing paragraph that can encourage feedback from your readers. It could be something as simple as "what do you think?", "do you agree or disagree," or even a "do you think we missed anything?" question to kick-start comments.
Step Outside Comfort Zone. While you may purposefully try to steer away from controversial blog post topics because you don’t want to upset your readers, sometimes readers don't have much to say about a cookie-cutter post aside from, "oh, that was well written." But stirring the pot a little by writing some "spicy" headlines and blog posts may just get your readers riled up and their opinions and voices on your comments page. This is not to suggest that you should post explicit and derogatory material, but do try to post a topic that you know will get a reaction out of your readers.
Make Blog Posts a Reasonable Length. Lastly, you may have a great idea for a blog post that calls for 1,000 words but you might want to consider breaking the post into a two-part series of some sort. This is because the internet doesn’t call for lengthy articles and your reader's short attention-span may prevent your readers from ever reaching the end; and if they don’t reach the end they won't contribute with feedback. Thus, try to aim at formulating 300-600 word blog posts.
*Additional Tips: you want to always get involved whenever your readers comment. This means you should not only thank your readers for taking out the time to leave a comment but also by answering their question/addressing their concerns. If your readers know that you actually care about what they have to say, they will be more inclined to leave more comments in the future. In addition, you want to make sure that your comment box is fully functional and that it sounds warm and inviting—you may want to change your comment box message from "no comments" to "be the first one to comment!"

QR Codes: A Beginner’s Guide to QR Codes for Business Owners
This is a guest post by Kaitlin from Anna Bean
What is a QR Code:
Funny looking, yes. Incredibly useful, YES. A QR Code (short for Quick Response code) looks like the classic barcode you see on any regular in-store item, but unlike a bar code (which can only hold up to 20 digits), a QR code can hold thousands of characters of data. Within the two dimensional matrix barcode is encoded information that could contain things like text, pictures, video, or a URL.
How It Works:
Designed for high speed decoding, when a QR code is scanned by any Smartphone’s camera, it instantly opens the phone’s browser to a specific web page. Today, you’ll sometimes see QR codes in magazine advertisements, on business cards or bus advertisements. You can generate your own QR code for your business with QR code generators available on the web. Google has released a free QR code generator and there are several other free code generators as well.
Using QR Codes for your Business:
QR codes can be used for businesses in a number of different ways. They are effective because you can share multiple pieces of content as well as provide a direct link to what you want customers to see. Instead of a basic “Find us on Facebook” message which often includes a long website link, you can eliminate the time that someone may or may not take to go to your site by providing them with a direct pathway to your Facebook available in a QR code. What makes QR codes even more useful is the fact that web services are enabling business to track the success of their QR code campaigns.
Whether you have an online store or a brick & mortar, you can use QR codes in several different ways. You can make them a part of promotions and discounts by creating QR codes containing special discounts. You can also combine the use of QR code discounts with efforts to increase e-mail subscribers or Facebook likes/Twitter followers.
Another interesting, yet seemingly obvious concept to implement in a business plan is using QR codes for labeling purposes. Putting a QR code on products or on the product tag enables people who like your product a way to find out more information about it.
Finally, the most simple and to the point way to include QR codes in your business strategy is placing them on business cards. You can still keep all of the essential information on your card while putting other supplemental Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn contact data in a QR code.

The Importance of Building Relationships with Other Bloggers
Building relationships with other bloggers in your niche is one of the top ways to grow your blog and your credibility on the web. If you're really ready to do what it takes to see your blog grow, one of your best options is certainly to reach out to other bloggers and to build relationships.
Today, Daniela Baker from CreditDonkey and a mother of two shares a few reasons you want to put some time into building relationships with other bloggers.
They're actually real relationships!
As a mommy blogger, you may be looking more for friendship and interaction from your blog than for profit – at least at first! The great part about blogging relationships is that they often turn into real friendships. Think about it. The people you're reaching out to are interested in some of the same things you are, which is why they're in your blogging niche to begin with. Relationships that start out with emails about how to grow traffic can end up in frequent phone calls about how to deal with two-year-old tantrums or stories about fun family vacations.
You can get more traffic to your site
For your blog, relationships are vital because they can drive traffic to your site. Even just commenting on another blog and leaving your link as a calling card can get you some traffic. Exchanging links and banners with other blogs is another great way to drive more traffic to your blog, especially if you're building relationships with bloggers who are already credible in your niche.
Other bloggers can teach you tips and tricks
Even if your blogging relationships don't turn into close personal friendships, most bloggers are willing to help one another out. Seek out relationships with those who are slightly more experienced than you, and you'll often find they have plenty of tips and tricks that can help you develop your blog. Just exchanging emails about how another blog got started and how a blogger operates can give you insight into what you need to do to see your blog succeed.
You'll grow your own credibility
Relationships that end up in link exchanges with relevant niche blogs can build your credibility with both the search engines and your real readers. Link exchanges that are obviously based on actual relationships and mutual interest rather than on purchases weigh more heavily with the search engines, so they can help boost your search engine ranking. Plus, exchanging links with other relevant blogs in your niche can build credibility for you with the readers of more well-established blogs, who are more likely to read your blog when they see that their favorite mommy blogger likes it.
They can fill in for you sometimes
Guest posts can be one of the best things about building relationships with other bloggers. You can get a great post written when you're too busy to do it, or you can simply add more interest for your readers by exchanging guest posts with other bloggers in your niche. Not only do guest posts give you a day off once in a while, but they can also help add even more interest and credibility to your site, especially if your guest poster is already somewhat well-known in your niche!
Options for financing your blog startup
There are lots of different options for covering the basic financing of your blogging start-up. It doesn’t take much, after all! You might pay for some hosting fees, and you may even hire a designer to give your blog a unique look that isn't standard and predictable. However, even these things aren't likely to cost all that much.
Many mommy bloggers simply budget for their blog startups, gradually adding on to their blogs so that they don't have to worry too much about shelling out a lot of money at once. Others may use a separate business rewards credit card for their blogs. Just be sure that if you do this, you carefully track your spending and try to pay off the credit card quickly, or you could end up with major interest charges. Finding the right financing option for your blog is as simple as figuring out what you actually need to pay for and then finding the best financing option for your needs.
Financing and starting your blog is simple with all the tools available today. Just keep in mind that it does take time to build a blog and, especially, to build relationships through your blog. Just like it takes time to build relationships "in real life" it will take weeks or months for you to build relationships with other bloggers in your niche.

Using Social Media to Market Your Online Business
This is a guest post by Kaitlin from Anna Bean
Start Writing
You can begin building links in to your website by writing articles for websites, bloggers, or even just on Ezine. Lots of people are looking for content and if you have something new and unique to add to the mix, people will want to use it. Ezine is a great tool because by submitting an article, you receive links in the byline and bio as well as have your article indexed by search engines.
Connect With Others
Having a blog or engaging in forums is an extremely effective way to communicate with others and of course offer your opinion or knowledge on a particular subject. Not to mention, by working with bloggers with reciprocal blog posts, Facebook updates or tweets, you can often form a great relationship where you each share your important news to your fans and theirs.
Remember, forum moderators or blog owners don’t like spam so it’s best not to pack in several links to your website. A link in the signature line is enough. Comment because you have something to say or you have something useful to share. If someone likes what you say, they’ll most likely click on your signature.
Reciprocal Link Building
Help a sister out! On a small scale, it can be useful to link to other businesses that will also send traffic your way. There are several mom entrepreneurs who engage in this and it is definitely a positive and friendly way to work with others to promote your business and theirs. (Of course, you should aim to work with people in non-competing businesses so that there’s no conflict of interest).
Make Social Media Your Not So Secret Weapon
Facebook and Twitter are clearly here to stay, so you might as well use them to your advantage. Build your Facebook by letting people know via your email list that they can find useful information about products or sales or just use it as another means of customer contact. Continue generating interest on your page by announcing occasional giveaways or special discounts or promotions only on Facebook.
Facebook’s Welcome Tab
If you haven’t seen this yet, a welcome tab is simply a specially designed tab that acts as the landing page for your Facebook. So anytime someone visits your Facebook from any source, they will see the Welcome tab first.
Creating a Welcome tab is a great way to really introduce a new visitor to your business. Instead of initially coming to your page and seeing your Wall with your most recent updates, they will see a short bio of who you are and what you have to offer (which also reinforces your brand image). Encouraging people to “Like” you via the Welcome Tab is also very easy since you can create a custom message that lets people know that by liking you they’ll get exclusive discounts & promotions.
Updating Your Website
Every time Google modifies their algorithm (every few months, on average), businesses work hard to refashion their website in order to gain a better SEO result. Constantly adding new, updated information increases your chances of moving up in the rankings because it shows that you are providing quality content about your products or your services. Google likes to see quality changes made to your content on a regular basis. Good content will also draw people in as customers will prefer a site that is well organized and contains valuable information.
