Family Friendly Cars For Moms

Whether you are a working mom, soccer mom or stay at home mom, you need a safe, reliable way to get your family from school to the dentist, to the game, to the party and back home. Some days you need a vehicle that can haul your kids, their friends, backpacks and bicycles while offering fuel efficiency and easy parking. Other days, you want to look sleek pulling up to a meeting. In any case, the days of the stereotype minivan mom are gone. Families can choose from station wagons, SUVs, crossover vehicles and even spacious 4-doors hatchbacks as options to keep the clan on the move. Here are some family-friendly options for busy, driving moms:

The Dodge Durango Citadel is a sturdy but stylish sports utility vehicle that offers practical amenities while providing a luxury feel. The SUV is moderately priced, an attractive attribute for every family. The Durango seats seven, gets 16 miles per gallon in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Families with teens may particularly enjoy experimenting with features such as the electronic information center, Sirius Satellite Radio and Bluetooth capability. A rear back up camera and parking assistance system comes in handy when the car is packed to the gills with kids and cargo.

Don’t rule out smaller models for family transportation. The Toyota Prius may seem an unlikely choice for a family car but the hybrid is easy to park, easy to handle and good mileage makes it easy on the wallet. Toyota boasts the car gets up to 51 mpg in the city, making errands, appointments and carpools a little less painful. The car seats five and has a surprisingly deep storage space in back.

Prius now offers even better mileage and fuel economy with the new Plug-in Hybrid available starting at $32,000. Families can receive a $2,500 federal tax credit for purchasing this model. The Plug-ins can be charged in just three hours using a standard outlet, offering up to 15 miles of pure electric driving.

If you like the tried and true mini-van design, the Chrysler Town and Country Limited is a reliable classic. This mini-van features seating for seven and the second and third rows fold-down to transform the already spacious interior into a flat space that could host a real tailgate party. A built-in DVD system will distract young ones on cross-country trips and side curtain airbags provide additional safety for everyone.
