Getting into eco-gaming with The Co-operative

An eco-revolution is here! And by all accounts it’s being led by none other than Generation Y – the kids of today.

Many kids are thinking green, even more so than their Mums and Dads and this is not something that has gone unnoticed – even big brands are now nurturing this phenomenon in the hope that kids educate their parents first, and their own kids in the future.

To quote an amazing statistic from a recent study by The Co-operative - more than 90% of young people are interested in green issues and helping the environment. And this was not just a study for study’s sake, this was to support the view that kids can really influence how we treat the environment – starting at home.

With this in mind, there are loads of things families can do together that are easy, eco-friendly and that raise awareness of the green issues our planet is facing. Homeowners should start with proper insulation and double glazing, and ensuring they’re with the greenest energy company. As a family, why not walk or cycle together – even if it’s just to school or a change from sitting in and watching a movie.

The green buck doesn’t have to stop at home though – check out The Co-operative’s Green Schools Revolution if you haven’t already. It’s a free programme designed to be used in primary and secondary schools all over the UK, to help teach school kids about different environmental issues and let them know how they can help with climate change. Parents and children can ask the head teacher about it and get the school to sign up to the programme for free. Teachers will get access to all kinds of learning resources and the kids will even get the chance to go on some excellent, free eco field trips to amazing locations.

If you have an iPhone or iPod download The Green School Revolution’s new app – it’s free! It’s a fun game that involves players going against the clock to harvest vegetable crops, turn taps off to save water and flick light switches off to save energy. Apart from helping you to learn more about environmental issues, it’s also really entertaining and if you manage to complete all of the levels you can unlock the secret bonus level. The makers of this app know that young people are the green pioneers of the future, which is why they have created it specifically to be fun for young people, but also something that can be enjoyed as a family.

The app is available to download for free from the App Store now! And you can use it on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. The game isn't limited to kids and teenagers though – it’s designed to be fun for all the family – brush up on your eco knowledge today!
